A barrel or drum grill is a steel drum split lengthways with a hinged lid, cooking grate and legs: the standard low-cost format for large-format charcoal cooking. The Bucket Drum BBQ Barrel Grill is a 131 cm barrel-format charcoal grill built on a thick high-temperature powder-coated steel body, aimed at courtyard, terrace and hospitality use. It combines a 70.5 x 36 cm 304 stainless cooking grid, four independently vented doors for heat control, an electric rotary spit and a front-loading charcoal door, and is sized to feed 5 to 15 people at a single sitting.

Build and materials

• The barrel shell is pressed from thick steel plate rather than thin sheet, which is what keeps the chamber from distorting when the charcoal plate is loaded and the lid is cycled repeatedly.

• Four separate front doors let the operator control airflow across the fire rather than at a single vent — the practical difference between a stable 160 °C cook and a fire that runs away when the lid opens.

• The charcoal plate is height-adjustable, so the same unit can run hot and direct for searing or low and indirect for long cooks.

• The 304 stainless grid is specified for food contact and corrosion resistance. Cheaper chrome-plated wire is the usual substitution at this price point and typically lasts two to three seasons.
